Sailing July 31

Today I drove to Victoria to sail my tug at Harrison Pond with members of the Victoria Marine Modelers
Harrison Pond was built in 1955 by Victoria Mayor Claude Harrison specifically for the use of model boaters.
In those days sailboats were dominant, however technology now permits electric. Sunday mornings is the weekly sailing in the pond which measures 30x80 Meters.

In order to launch my model which weighs 100 lbs.,I built a dolly system for transport, launching, and retrieving.
Next week I will include photos of other boats on the pond.

SS Master - Video

A short clip of the SS Master on the pond, with sound effects courtesy of another modeller sailing his large destroyer...

SS Master - Maiden Voyage

Today was a great day for a maiden voyage, a little overcast but that is ideal for photos,  a few friends gathered to sail a total
of four boats however the one that got all the attention was the tug...it
performed well, very pleased with the ballast, speed and overall appearance.

SS Master Drive Train

SS Master " HULL"

This is my first attempt at a scale RC boat model

I started construction in late 2009, completed in March 2011

The model is a scratch built scale replica of a real tug based in Vancouver , a prolific working boat on Canada's Wesrt Coast since its launch in 1924.

My model is 62 inches long and built to 1/18 scale. It is powered by a single motor driving a single shaft with a 5 inch 3 bladed brass  propeller. No fibreglass was used in the construction..
